Festa della Sensa

The Festa della Sensa, the ceremony which commemorates Venice's marriage to the sea, takes place on the first Sunday after Ascension Day (the Thursday that is 40 days after Easter). Historically the doge performed the ceremony, held in a special boat, of marrying Venice with the sea by throwing a gold ring into the water. However today the ceremony is performed by the mayor who uses a laurel wreath. Following the ceremony, there is a big boat regatta and the day also usually includes a huge fair. May 21th 2023.

Festa del Redentore 2023

Festa del Redentore 2023 (Feast of the Redeemer 2023), one of the most important events in the Venetian calendar, will take place in the weekend of July 15-16, 2023, in Venice. Every year since 1577, when the city of Venice was liberated from a terrible plague, the Feast of the Redeemer is celebrated in the third weekend of July. At first, the feast was a purely religious event, but over the centuries profane elements were added to the religious manifestations, and today the celebration includes a party, a regatta, and one of the most impressive fireworks display in the world. The feast is also known as Festa Famosissima (Most Famous Feast).
